Dear McKenna Families:
I am so delighted to be serving as the President of McKenna PTA. On behalf of the McKenna PTA Executive Board, I would like to extend our warmest welcome to our families. Whether you are a returning family or new to McKenna, we are excited to begin the new school year together.
Over the summer, the PTA Board has been hard at work planning programs and events for the upcoming school year. Some events to look forward to this month are the Boo Hoo/Yahoo Breakfast for our Kindergarten parents, Back to School BBQ, and our annual Harvest Fair. There are PTA events scheduled each month so look out for the announcements.
To ensure that we keep our families informed, we offer several different forms of communication. Our website www.mckennapta.com is where you can find information on all PTA related events, so check back often for updates! We have a new closed PTA Facebook group called J.P. McKenna Elementary PTA; please request to join. We will be sharing photos and information on activities at our school in addition to information that affects both McKenna and our wider Massapequa School community. Our PTA also sends emails and utilizes the Remind App. Please make sure you are signed up for both so you won’t miss out on important reminders.

Our events are successful because of our volunteers who dedicate their time to our children and our PTA, and equally as important are the families that support the events. We hope you will take the opportunity to volunteer this year. There is something for everyone, no matter your interest or your schedule. Everyone is welcome!
Our first PTA meeting will be September 12th at 10am. We have meetings planned in the mornings, afternoons and evenings to accommodate all schedules. Our October 10th meeting is our first evening meeting at 7:30PM. Our hope is that you will leave our PTA meetings informed about what is going on not only at our school, but at the other schools, the school district and the Board of Education as well.
We want informed members so we can fulfill our primary mission, advocacy. “Advocacy is at the heart of PTA's mission and vision. Taking action provides both parents and PTA leaders with the resources to become more involved with their community at home and their community across the nation.” (National PTA) Together we can affect change at the local level that will impact all our children and ensure every child enjoys a quality education, in a healthy and safe environment.
